Shakhter claim Kazakhstan Super Cup

03 March 2013 21:06
The two-time champions of Kazakhstan have confirmed their top class by winning the opening match of the 2013 football season against FC Astana. It was FC Shakhter’s second consecutive Kazakhstan Super Cup match. In the previous one, Shakhter suffered a defeat from Ordabasy of Shymkent. This time, Viktor Kumykov’s team had to deal with the country’s current Kazakhstan Cup holders, FC Astana.

The first half of the game saw the teams play equally as Astana created numerous episodes after crosses, free and corner kicks, while the Karaganda team were more successful in their counterattacks. However, the Astana Arena saw no goals netted before half time. Instead, the teams scored twice each after the break.

Within three minutes, Shakhter scored two goals. Maksat Baizhanov tapped the ball in after a cross from Zhambyl Kukeyev to score the opener. Later on, Andrey Paryvayev joined the attack on the left wing and received an assist from Andrey Finonchenko to double his team’s advantage with a well-aimed shot. However, FC Astana retained their eagerness and scored one goal back five minutes later as Foxy Kethevoama fired from the edge of the box and the ball deflected off Nikola Vasiljevic to go in.

Shakhter deployed some more coordinated actions in their defensive line. However, the Karaganda team failed to secure their vital lead as Nuserbayev passed the ball on to Sergey Ostapenko, who made the score on level in the dying minute of the match. The two teams played very carefully in the first extra time half but both still had very good scoring chances in the second 15-minute period. After a corner, Nuserbayev reached the ball quicker than Shakhter’s goalkeeper Mokin, but his shot went into the crossbar and Abzal Beysebekov’s rebound also mystically hit the post to be cleared away by a Shakhter defender. Then, it was Kukeyev’s time. The 25-year-old midfielder made a solo run along the left wing to reach the Astana penalty area, rounded two defenders, Zelao and Korobkin, and sent the ball past the Astana goalkeeper Nenand Eric. As a result, Shakhter gained a 3-2 win to claim the trophy. It was the President of the Professional Football League of Kazakhstan, Mikhail Gurman, who awarded runners-up with medals, after which the President of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov presented the winners with their medals and the 2013 Kazakhstan Super Cup trophy.
